Wellness Center and Retreat dedicated to health and wellness

A new sanctuary has arrived for those seeking a balanced lifestyle: Tao Center & Riviera Maya Residential Community.

Nestled in the private 717-acre Bahia Principe Residential Complex and surrounded by the world class Robert Trent Jones II 27-hole championship golf course and 9-hole par 3 course, Tao Center & Riviera Maya Residential Community will be an exclusive resort development offering 400 spacious Residences, Townhomes, Condominiums, a 24-room boutique hotel, The Retreat, and a Wellness Center.  The project is slated for completion in early 2012.

Embracing the philosophy of Tao, which refers to “the path to achieving individual fulfillment or personal enlightenment,” Tao Center & Riviera Maya Residential Community is the quintessential luxury paradise located in the Mexican Caribbean; this unique property is built on the foundations of holistic health and the pursuit of an inspired life. Our Tao Center and Residential Community offers a perfect blend of functionality, sophistication, serenity and self-fulfillment – all at accessible prices.

Tao Center & Riviera Maya Residential Community, a natural sanctuary situated in the middle of the Mayan jungle and approximately 15 minutes from Tulum, is surrounded by exuberant vegetation, caves, sacred natural rock pools, and cenotes — a significant portion of which will remain undeveloped, so residents have a spacious sense of place and a strong relationship to the natural world. Residents of the community and guests of the Retreat will also have access to more than 120 acres of adjacent land that will be well-appointed with hiking and walking trails for all levels of ability.

The Tao Center’s holistic wellness program will be led by Jonathan Ellerby Ph.D., the internationally recognized best-selling author of “Inspiration Deficit Disorder,” “Return to the Sacred,” “Your Spiritual Personality” and former Spiritual Program Director for Canyon Ranch Health Resorts. With more than 20 years of experience in the fields of holistic healing, spiritual counselling, integrative medicine, and corporate consulting, Ellerby in the role of Tao Center CEO, will collaborate with our team to integrate inspired living concepts into the total design and culture of our property including the residential community.

The Center will provide guests with group and personalized physical and spiritual programming to facilitate guests’ own sense of inner peace, fitness, joyful recreation and to assist in their overall journey to attain a harmoniously balanced life.  The natural tropical setting, coupled with the experiential, integrative services found only at Tao will further serve to enhance guests overall transformative experience.

At the Tao Center residents and guests will be invited to participate in various self-discovery and personal expansion activities available throughout the day…practice yoga on a crystal-like glass platform overlooking a grotto…swim in the lap pools that weave their way throughout the property… work out in the fully-equipped gym.  Expert technicians will also be on hand to make dietary recommendations, assist in creating healthy lifestyle habits and provide advice to increase energy levels and promote longevity. The Tao Center will be as much about keeping your mind sharp and creative, as keeping your body fit and flexible, and your spirit tranquil and wise.

Tao Center & Riviera Maya Residential Community is the lifelong vision of developer and CEO of Dao Group, Benjamin Beja, and a collective of investors, the Dao Group.  Dao Group is a privately held Mexican real estate investment firm comprised of integrated development, design and construction and real estate sales and marketing divisions. Over the past eight years, Dao Group and Mexico Alive, the sales and marketing company of the Dao Group, have been responsible for developing, selling and marketing more than 1,300 homes in Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit and Riviera Maya, Mexico.

“Our vision for Tao Center & Riviera Maya Residential Community was to create an ideal environment for a personal journey of introspection and realized potential; to capture the spirit of the area’s peaceful energy and offer residents ample room, yet easy access to the facilities and the area’s countless recreational opportunities. Buyers will undoubtedly be drawn to the luxurious infrastructure, yet relaxed and accessibly priced offering.”

Responsible Tourism in Cities: South Africa and Mexico

by Ron Mader

The date is set for the Responsible Tourism in Cities Conference in Durban, South Africa: the morning of May 6, as part of the Indaba tourism conference. The event is presented by The City of Cape Town in partnership with Cape Town Tourism and South African Tourism. Media partners include Planeta.com, the website I founded in 1994.

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to cross the Atlantic! There’s so much to learn when comparing more than two countries.

While in South Africa, I hope to arrange a Photosafari or two along the lines of the events we’ve conducted in Llano Park in Oaxaca.

Space is available for 100 delegates at the conference venue and any number of virtual delegates via livestreaming video and Twitter. We already have a few participants registered from Mexico! Register to participate here.

Background
The Responsible Tourism in Cities Conference seeks to bring together leaders in local government, sustainable tourism and social media, focusing on a practical set of issues – conservation and tourism in cities. It will help city officials, community organizations, the private sector, academics, NGOs, activists and other stakeholders understand some of the key issues underlying responsible tourism in cities, and will equip them with practical knowledge and resources to help make a positive contribution toward implementing responsible tourism in their city destination.

Please let me know what you think Mexico could teach the world about responsible travel. If there is interest, we’ll conduct similar events in Mexico.

Mexico Launches Sustainable Tourism Project in Sierra Gorda

The Sierra Gorda Ecological Group (GESGIAP) in Sierra Gorda, Mexico, has been announced as the benefactor of a grant from the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) that will provide funding necessary to turn the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve of northern Queretaro State (www.queretaro.travel) into a world-class tourism destination.

In 2008 it received the Tourism for Tomorrow Award of the World Travel & Tourism Council. Currently, the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve is a high-priority conservation area in Mexico due to its rich biodiversity and high degree of conservation. Although rich in natural resources, the area is made up of predominantly rural landholders in 600 communities facing economic problems as well as lack of employment opportunities.

The funding for the “Sustainable Tourism in Sierra Gorda” project will enable for innovative mechanisms to be installed to reduce rural poverty, while assisting the end of deforestation, preservation of diverse ecosystems and species and allowing for rehabilitation of degraded areas and sustainable management of natural resources. The project will directly benefit about 100 small to medium sized businesses including hotels, restaurants, tour guides, travel agencies and tourist services, five municipalities and the local communities by contributing to the development of an economy in rural communities in naturally protected areas of Mexico with the purpose of creating a model of rural tourism in the Sierra Gorda region. CANCUN CELEBRATES ITS 41ST YEAR OF EXISTENCE!

Cancun, Q. Roo (April 22, 2011):–    Today is the day that thousands of people from different cultures converge in one place to celebrate the 41ST anniversary of the founding of Cancun. Since its inception, this magical destination in the Caribbean was thought to be one of the most important places of the country where international and national tourists could be provided with a taste of what Mexico really is: flavor, color, culture, landscapes, nature and our famous warmth.

This is how Cancun is; a multicultural destination where people come together from the 32 Mexican states to celebrate their home nation and the creation of their own identity that was founded just 41 years ago.

Cancun is a destination that attracts not only tourists but thousands of people who choose to live there and enjoy its cosmopolitan flair, as well as his tireless concern for nature and the environment and its cultural and ethnic diversity.

It is not uncommon to find foreigners living in the area. According to the 2009 census conducted by the National Migration Institute (INM) about 10.753 people choose to spend extensive periods of time or live in Quintana Roo, ranging from North Americans, Africans, Asians,  Arabs, Europeans, South Americans and Caribbean natives.

Among the most numerous colonies of foreigners registered in Quintana Roo are:

  • 2.140 Americans
  • 1.172 Cubans
  • 792 Italians
  • 765 Spaniards
  • 698 Argentineans
  • 625 Canadians
  • 354 Germans
  • 306 British

To celebrate the multiculturalism in Cancun on April 20th, the third annual Theme and Regional Costume Parade will be held, organized by the Civil Partnership Pioneers of Cancun. It is expected that more than 2,000 people will attend the parade and participate in one of two categories: a) Antique cars, Cowboys, Bikers, Scouts, Sports Clubs, etc  and b) Regional Costumes, Yucatan, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Cuban, Italian , etc. (wearing the customary clothes of their place of origin).

Today is the day we all stop being thinking of ourselves as being from a specific state or country and come together to celebrate the Cancun-ness in us all and show the world why we are still one of the favorite destinations for our kindness and warmth as well as beautiful natural landscapes.

About Cancun

Cancun is located in the northern part of the southeastern Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It is Mexico’s number one tourist destination and is known all over the world for its spectacular beaches, unique beauty and breathtaking turquoise waters.

Cancun’s shoreline recently underwent a $71 Million Dollar makeover, that featured 1.3 billion gallons of sand to renovating the Hotel Zone’s seashore.  The most popular tourism destination in Mexico and Latin America has also added to its sun, beach, and nightlife, by creating a unique five-day route that will offer visitors a chance to experience adventure and interaction with nature. Cancun and the Treasures of the Caribbean invite travelers to discover the vast natural, cultural and gastronomical cultures of Puerto Morelos, and the four islands of the Mexican Caribbean: Holbox, Isla Mujeres, Contoy and Cozumel. Cancun is a multifaceted destination that combines nature, historical Mayan Culture, glamour, luxury and world class tourism with the seduction for adventure, the passion for paradisiacal nature and the enchantment of gastronomical magic.
