Mexico Still Tops the List for Spring Break

Living in Arizona, Mexico has always been the destination of choice for Spring Break. It’s good to see things are still going strong. Mexico has retained its position as a top Spring Break location for American students, as well as students from around the world. This year alone, 600,000 tourists visited Mexico, according to Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism. The most popular Mexican destinations for Spring Break travel this year were Cancun and Riviera Maya.

The T20 meeting was held on May 15 and 16 in Merida, Yucatan.  At the forum, the Ministers of Tourism from the 20 most developed economies in the world discussed the topic of “Tourism: an Opportunity to Generate Jobs”.

This meeting was a lead up to the G20 Leaders Summit which will take place in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, on June 18 and 19. The objective of the T20 meeting is to devise proposals on how to better harness the tourism industry to fuel job creation.

Mexican Jockey Could Make Horse Racing History

It’s no secret that I’m a big horse racing fan. My father starting taking me to the track when I was 12 years old, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve been to the Kentucky Derby 22 of the last 25 years and it’s always an incredible thrill. On June 9th, a 25-year-old Mexican jockey named Mario Gutierrez (from Veracruz) and his mount,  I’ll Have Another,  are headed to the 144th Belmont Stakes bidding for the first Triple Crown since 1978 when Affirmed won thoroughbred racing’s biggest prize.

Gutierrez was riding in Mexico City when he was spotted by Terry Jordan, a Hastings Racecourse trainer who had gone to the track while on vacation. And the rest, as they say, is history. A virtual unknown a few months ago, Mario guided I’ll Have Another to Kentucky Derby and Preakness (read about it at http://mexicotoday.org/article/mario-gutierrez-looks-keep-triple-crown-hopes-alive-preakness-stakes ) victories and is focused on making history.

Mexico’s Provocative Series about Drug Legalization to Make World Premiere Exclusively on Cinelatino

Series will be available on all major U.S. cable, satellite and Telco providers

The highly-provocative dramatic series from Mexico about the country’s illegal drug trade, and the first Mexican series about drug legalization, “Estado de Gracia ” (State of Grace), will make its world premiere on Monday, June 4, 2012, exclusively on Cinelatino—the nation’s leading Spanish-language movie channel.

Estado de Gracia ” is a political suspense thriller that presents a realistic portrait of the drug trafficking crisis in Mexico, shedding light on the network of money, power and corruption that fuels the ongoing drug trade.

Set in Mexico City, the fictional series centers on a local congresswoman who proposes a law to legalize drugs in an effort to dismantle the powerful drug cartels and end the narco-related violence. Facing powerful enemies, the congresswoman—played by esteemed Mexican actress Karina Gidi—watches all aspects of her life come apart after proposing this controversial legislation.

The 13-episode series portrays a sobering view of the country’s illegal drug trade and touches on sensitive issues such as corruption among politicians and police, blame, the impunity of drug traffickers, violence and drug-related killings, addiction, temptations among those in office, the role of the media, and the dangers facing non-corrupt police officers. The series also captures the human element to the story, showing the impact of drugs in the home, at the office and in school.

Mexico Reinforces Its Status As Top Destination For Weddings With Love Mexico Events In New York And Dallas
