More On Medical Insurance In Mexico

In response to one of my posts regarding the lack of Medicare coverage in Mexico, I received the following email message from Dr. John Raffetto, CEO and President of Ambassador Care. If anyone has used these services, please add your comments to this post or email me directly at dave@mexicopremiere.com.

From: John Raffetto

I am delighted to confirm that the Ambassador Care program is available to most any Medicare recipient with a primary address in Southern California. There is no additional cost in most cases.

We provide complete care in Southern California and much but not all care in Mexico and anywhere in the world. Overseas, we offer emergency and urgent care which is defined as care that the patient feels he needs immediately. This means anything from lumps and bumps to aches and pains to fever and chills all the way up to surgery and full blown emergencies.  The traditional Medicare program does not offer any kind of overseas care, except in a very limited way near the Mexican and Canadian borders.  I have attached a comparison of the Medicare benefits we offer versus those available through the traditional Medicare program.

If you open either attachment, you will notice a serial number. This was issued by Medicare. Medicare is formally referred to as CMS.  Only CMS can provide this serial number. CMS stands for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Ambassador Care is particularly attractive to travelers or and to those who remain abroad for an extended period. Many in Medicare members have homes abroad or stay with relatives overseas.  Additionally I would like to note that Mexicans who have remained citizens of Mexico, who have a green card and who have paid into Social Security for 10 years or more and are now 65 or older, can qualify.  You do not have to be a citizen to qualify for Medicare.

I am going to have Dr. Joseph Ramsey, our Director of Sales, contact you about marketing.

Our call center is staffed by Medicare licensed and trained agents.  Within 10 minutes we can  enroll any qualified caller right on the phone.

Please call or write with any questions you might have.

With best wishes,

Cordially,

John

This program is completely bogus, and I can’t believe that you’re wasting bandwidth on it. Extending Medicare benefits abroad isn’t even on Congress’ radar screen.

The pitch is very cleverly written, leading the reader to make assumptions about Medicare.

As a diligent journalist, you might explore the connections between AmbassadorCare and its involvement in radio, making loans to doctors, real estate development and even a network of veterinary care providers.

    Hey Goodman,

Thanks for adding to the discussion. That is exactly why I posted the info…to get some feedback. Mexico Premiere is both a News and an Opinion site, so if I can stimulate a conversation like this I think I am doing my job. For the record, the pitch does say “The traditional Medicare program does not offer any kind of overseas care…”., and I have confirmed that there is no Medicare coverage in Mexico in a previous post, to which I provided a link.

I am not sure that AmbassadorCare’s involvement in other businesses automatically disqualifies them as an insurance provider. Can you provide an instance (and proof) where that is a problem? You state that AmbassadorCare is “completely bogus”. OK, fair enough. Can you let us know how, and describe a specific example?

    Thanks again,
    Dave
