Governor Ney Gonzalez and the head of the SCT, Juan Molinar, presided the opening ceremony. The bridge is expected to boost communications and tourism and aid economic development and employment.

The AMECA I bridge connecting northbound commuters from Riviera Nayarit to Puerto Vallarta—the very same one that collapsed due to heavy rains back on August 31^st—was reopened this week after a simple ceremony led by Governor Ney Gonzalez and the head of the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT), Juan Molinar.

The first phase of reconstruction of this important communication link was completed ahead of schedule. Originally slated to be finished in Easter 2011, the work was done in record time of 98 days.

Sixty-one meters out of the almost 800 total meters had to be completely rebuilt a cost of 82 million pesos, contributed in full by the Federal Government.

It is worth mentioning that the communication between the two destinations was never interrupted. The Ameca II bridge, which is normally used for traffic flow from north to south, was immediately re-routed for two-way transit.

The rehabilitation of the bridge contributes to a better traffic flow during the upcoming Christmas holidays and was made possible thanks to the teamwork between Ney Gonzalez, the SCT and the governments of Jalisco and Puerto Vallarta, respectively.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau/Riviera Nayarit welcomes this effort, which allows for a much better travel experience for all tourists who come to this region.
