ACAPULCO IGNITES 2009 – Annual Fireworks Gala to Ring in the New Year

The Acapulco Convention & Visitors Bureau today announced plans for the Annual Fireworks Gala to illuminate the sky over the Santa Lucia Bay on December 31, 2008. This much beloved tradition will feature fireworks launched from 20 different points along the Bay, from Caleta to the Acapulco Navy Base. This year’s display consisting of 14,000 shots of colorful fireworks (more than double the amount used in previous years) will present between 7 and 8 minutes of continuous fireworks.

This event is made possible through the support of the Governor of Guerrero, Zeferino Torreblanca Galindo, and is coordinated by the offices of the State Secretary of Tourism, Municipal Government and the Acapulco Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“The holiday season is always a particularly magical time of year to visit Acapulco,” says Mary Bertha Medina, President of the Acapulco Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Our multitude of unique attractions and incomparable weather, available all year-round are further highlighted by a host of special holiday fiestas.”

Hotels, restaurants, discotheques and shops throughout the destination are planning special events to compliment this brilliant display and ensure guests enjoyment of the New Year celebration.
