Lydia brings to the group a unique perspective on this whole Mexico deal: she’s actually Mexican. Well, make it half Mexican. The other half is also Hispanic, which happily makes her 100% Latina and that’s just how she likes it. Besides the obvious personal experience she has accumulated over her many years of eating one abuela’s pozole and the other’s arroz con habichuelas, she’s had the good fortune to have served as Mexico Editor for one of the nation’s top travel agent magazines and a PR guru for a boutique agency specializing in upscale clients in Mexico. Add to the mix a stint as a TV personality, an enlightening few years as editor of a woman’s publication on a Caribbean island, a swing as editor of a bilingual wedding magazine in Miami and another couple of years as fashion and beauty editor of a seriously swanky fashion rag (yeah, the one with the short French name) and the result is a very opinionated, very passionate, very short person in very high heels. We hope you enjoy her rants, raves and commentaries and she invites you to please drop in and play in her sandbox.

GRAND FIESTA AMERICANA LOS CABOS UPGRADES GUEST SERVICES

New restaurant and bar complement new room fittings

LOS CABOS, MEXICO  – Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos All Inclusive, Golf and Spa has upped the ante on guest services by adding a brand new restaurant and bar, along with extensive upgrades to rooms. The renovations put an extra gloss on the resort’s already outstanding amenities that include access to two championship golf courses, unique wine spa, and private beach where guests can snorkel and take in the underwater beauty of the Sea of Cortes.

The upgrades include a complete makeover of all 249 rooms. All standard guest rooms now reflect the latest in design that complements the natural splendor of Los Cabos. Here, the desert rolls down into the sea, a combination that creates a special atmosphere and beauty found nowhere else in the world with strong blues juxtaposed against the desert’s neutral tones. The new décor takes its cues from the local environment with splashes of color contrasting a cool white background.

The luxurious new fittings might even make guests not want to leave their rooms and take advantage of the resort’s other activities and amenities. All rooms now feature new bathroom fixtures (including a shower rain-head), a 55” flat screen smart TV, new bed headboards and night stands, rug and colorful throw pillows. All rooms with a king-size bed will now feature sofas and ottomans so guests can make themselves feel right at home. Additional add-ons include a brand new mini bar featuring soft drinks, beer and snacks.

The resort has also recently inaugurated the brand new Restaurant Blu, the ninth dining option at the resort, offering snacks and international cuisine; and a new bar and lounge will also make its home in the resort this fall, offering a nightly DJ, live music, and large screen TV’s for sporting events.

“Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos is focused on giving guests memories that will stay with them for life,” said Enrique Calderón, Chief Operating Officer for Hotel Division, Grupo Posadas. “In order to provide the best, we are constantly fine tuning our hotels to offer a better experience and show guests the stellar service and modern amenities that the Posadas brand is known for,” he added.

Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos All Inclusive, Golf and Spa understands that guests expect a unique and world class resort experience outside their rooms as well. The resort offers activities that pamper and relax at the world-renowned SOMMA WineSPA, the only one of its kind in Mexico. The spa’s serene atmosphere is based on a-one-of-a-kind set of services that incorporates grapes and wine in a selection of the finest contemporary treatments and features 15 treatment rooms, a fitness center, wet and dry saunas, and special amenities including a glass of wine once a treatment is completed.

The resort is also home to more than 13,000 sq. ft. of meeting space that hold up to 1,100 people, and great outdoor venues for private events that showcase spectacular views of the golf course and the Sea of Cortes. Additionally, the resort’s Grand Club offers guests luxury and privacy with subtle details like private pool, VIP concierge services, and premium amenities at The Grand Club lounge.

The upgrades at Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos All Inclusive, Golf and Spa will ensure the facilities continue to satisfy even the most discerning of guests for years to come as they enjoy the resort’s fine dining, championship golf courses, pristine beach and relaxing spa. United We Stand Tour Brings Family-Friendly Entertainment To Fans On National Tour

Bigger, badder, better—and even more popular. The Lucha Libre USA phenomenon, the immensely entertaining brand of wrestling born in Mexico and transplanted to the U.S., continues to grow, especially in the Hispanic community. Beginning April 12, Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors will embark on a national United We Stand. The tour will makes its way to major arenas in Houston, San Jose, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, Laredo, San Antonio, Chicago and Dallas.

The fight over good and evil spills into the ring with the larger-than-life, legendary Luchastars Blue Demon Jr. and his former nemesis Solar taking on their American counterparts RJ Brewer and his group, The Right. The matches pit Mexican and American wrestling styles as well as churning up conflicts as cultures clash.

Brewer’s in-your-face, belligerent anti-illegal immigration stance has made him the villain Lucha Libre USA’s large concentration of Latino fans love to hate. Brewer was recently profiled on ABC’s “Nightline.” The ever-defiant Brewer has spawned a slew of copycats in other wrestling organizations but none has gained his notoriety or ability to rouse a crowd. One of his opponents Solar is one of the most revered of Mexico’s luchadores and his career was the subject of an award-winning PBS documentary.

Among the celebrated Luchastars joining the “United We Stand” tour is Marco Corleone, known as the International All-Star. The American-born Corleone, a former WWE wrestler who moved to Mexico to pursue his love of the Lucha style of wrestling, is a huge star in Mexico not only as a famous Luchador but also as one of the two lead actors in Mexico’s hottest telenovella, Porque el Amor Manda airing on Televisa TV. Playing the big villain on the show, soon Corleone will be seen by millions in America as the beloved telenovella premiered March 11 th on Univision Television.

Outside the ropes, Lucha Libre USA is fighting a different battle. In each of the cities on the United We Stand Tour, wrestlers are carrying an anti-bullying message to schools. They’re using their superstardom to convince mainly elementary school youngsters that bullying is unacceptable. “Hearing the message from such their heroes really drives the point home,” says Alex Abrahantes, Lucha Libre USA’s Vice President. “The campaign is our way of giving back to the community.”

Lucha Libre USA has become well known for its interactive, fan and family-friendly spin on sports entertainment, encouraging its followers to attend events dressed up as their favorite Luchastar, awarding prizes for the best costume, loudest supporter and the most creative sign. Free preshow activities get the crowd energized and people who purchase VIP tickets have the opportunity to attend an exclusive meet and greet with the wrestlers.

“We see our events as a non-stop fan party,” says Lucha Libre USA’s CEO Steven Ship. “We want you to be totally engaged from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave.”

The United We Stand tour line up will include a bigger roster of stars, including Blue Demon Jr., RJ Brewer, Lizmark Jr., The Firewall Jon Rekon, Stevie Richards, Psicosis, El Hijo Del Fantasma, Super Crazy, Super Nova, Pequeno Halloween, Mascara Purpura, Solar, Melina, and Shane “Hurricane” Helms and many more.

In several cities, Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors will also partner with Univision Radio on promotional events. Additional sponsors for potions of the tour include Volaris Airlines and Curacao, the West Coast based electronic and appliance retailers.

Lucha Libre USA is the only company in America dedicated entirely to Mexican pro wrestling. Almost a religion in Mexico, where it rivals soccer in attendance, lucha libre (free wrestling) boasts a 75-year history of colorful, fun-for-the-whole family entertainment. With over 50 million Hispanics living in the U.S. and a huge contingent of American wrestling fans, the spirited, action-packed spectacular is literally growing by leaps and bounds. Defying gravity with highly athletic, thoroughly exhilarating moves, the 2013 United We Stand Tour brings Mexican wresting to an entirely new level. http://luchalibreusa.com/

Hasta Luego, Old Friend: Rancho Buena Vista (Baja) Retires

Friends of Rancho Buena Vista recently received a farewell email… Yes, after more than 50 years, this venerable but way cool rancho is closing its doors.

Here’s a link to their farewell email – there’s a lot of information about their closing celebration (it’s today, so if you’re in Cabo… head on over) and more.

Hasta luego, amigo. You’ll be sorely missed…

P.S. If you have any good Rancho stories or pics to share, we want to hear from you!

Gran Fiesta Amigos de Mazatlán 2010 – I missed you, Maz!

By Lola

Followers of MexicoPremiere know I have a long-standing love affair with Mazatlán and I’m back again for more, thanks to my amigos. Every year, the Mazatlan Hotel Association rolls out the red carpet for national and international wholesalers—and invite the media to see and enjoy everything that’s new and everything that’s still wonderfully unchanged about Mazatlán. I’ve only been here for a few hours, but I’m already in heaven. Thanks to the Hotel Playa Mazatlán for my lovely room (I already unpacked, so it’s kinda messy. I took a picture of my view instead!) Late lunch was a perfectly prepared chicken breast a la plancha with vegetables, rice and salad. Yum.

More later!
