Cancun, Q. Roo (April 22, 2011):– Today is the day that thousands of people from different cultures converge in one place to celebrate the 41ST anniversary of the founding of Cancun. Since its inception, this magical destination in the Caribbean was thought to be one of the most important places of the country where international and national tourists could be provided with a taste of what Mexico really is: flavor, color, culture, landscapes, nature and our famous warmth.
This is how Cancun is; a multicultural destination where people come together from the 32 Mexican states to celebrate their home nation and the creation of their own identity that was founded just 41 years ago.
Cancun is a destination that attracts not only tourists but thousands of people who choose to live there and enjoy its cosmopolitan flair, as well as his tireless concern for nature and the environment and its cultural and ethnic diversity.
It is not uncommon to find foreigners living in the area. According to the 2009 census conducted by the National Migration Institute (INM) about 10.753 people choose to spend extensive periods of time or live in Quintana Roo, ranging from North Americans, Africans, Asians, Arabs, Europeans, South Americans and Caribbean natives.
Among the most numerous colonies of foreigners registered in Quintana Roo are:
- 2.140 Americans
- 1.172 Cubans
- 792 Italians
- 765 Spaniards
- 698 Argentineans
- 625 Canadians
- 354 Germans
- 306 British
To celebrate the multiculturalism in Cancun on April 20th, the third annual Theme and Regional Costume Parade will be held, organized by the Civil Partnership Pioneers of Cancun. It is expected that more than 2,000 people will attend the parade and participate in one of two categories: a) Antique cars, Cowboys, Bikers, Scouts, Sports Clubs, etc and b) Regional Costumes, Yucatan, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Cuban, Italian , etc. (wearing the customary clothes of their place of origin).
Today is the day we all stop being thinking of ourselves as being from a specific state or country and come together to celebrate the Cancun-ness in us all and show the world why we are still one of the favorite destinations for our kindness and warmth as well as beautiful natural landscapes.
