Frontier Airlines Announces New Routes to Mexico

MP News Staff

PR NEWSWIRE – Frontier Airlines today announced it will add new flights to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with non- stop service from both Sacramento (SMF) and San Jose (SJC), Calif. Tickets for the new routes are on sale now at FrontierAirlines.com.
The new Sacramento route, which will operate four days per week starting Dec. 15, 2007, will offer the comfort of the all-leather, 76-seat Embraer E-170 aircraft, operated by Republic Airlines. Thrice weekly San Jose flights will also begin Dec. 15, with two E-170 flights operated by Republic and a third Saturday flight aboard Frontier’s new fleet of Airbus A319s featuring 24 channels of DIRECTV(R) service and four pay-per-view movies in every seat back.

Frontier is offering special introductory fares on both new routes for as low as $119* each way. Fares must be purchased by 9:59 p.m. MDT on Sept. 12, 2007, for travel between Dec. 15, 2007, and March 5, 2008. With the addition of these new flights, Frontier now offers direct non- stop service to seven Mexican cities from 13 U.S. gateways — more gateways than any major U.S. carrier. Today’s announcement follows new Frontier Mexico routes announced earlier this week between Milwaukee (MKE) and Cancun (CUN), San Diego (SAN) and Mazatlan (MZT), and Albuquerque (ABQ) and Puerto Vallarta. The new Sacramento and San Jose routes are in addition to Frontier’s current non-stop service from both cities to Cabo San Lucas (SJD). Frontier’s total non-stop options to Mexico now include service from its Denver hub, Salt Lake City, Kansas City, St. Louis, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Indianapolis, Nashville, Milwaukee, San Diego, San Jose, Sacramento, Albuquerque and Los Angeles.

“Many travelers on our flights to Mexico have flown to Denver until recently to catch their flights, and now we are making our service even more convenient by adding several direct non-stop flights from gateway cities already in the Frontier route network,” said John Happ, Frontier’s senior vice president of marketing and planning. “Our new service from Sacramento and San Jose to Puerto Vallarta is the latest example of the significant, strategic growth of our Latin American route network, including low-cost service to Mexico from multiple non-Denver U.S. cities. Our fleet of E-170 jets will continue to play an important role in our international expansion as it provides us with flexibility during peak and off-peak times and also allows us to ‘right-size’ new city-pairs to and from Mexico, such as our new Albuquerque to Puerto Vallarta service. As the fastest growing domestic carrier to Central America, we look forward to many new destinations and frequencies on both sides of the border in the near future.”

Fairmont Acapulco: Summer’s Not Over!

By Lola

It’s mid-July and some people are already stockpiling school supplies. Hello! There’s still plenty of summer left!!! Say goodbye to Target and Walmart and worry about uniforms later–there’s a beach in Acapulco with your name on it!

Fairomont’s Pierre Marques and Acapulco Princess hotels have conspired to lure unsuspecting workaholics and frazzled moms (with or without “frazzlers”) with some downright nifty rates in their Only One Way promotion, which offers rooms starting at $149 per night. That’s right: you, too, can roam about the lovely shores of Revolcadero Beach–complete with a view of the Sierra Madre Mountains–and wallow in world class golf, exquisite cuisine, “sun, sand and salsa” without breaking the budget (you’ll have plenty left over for the hot lunches at school, we promise).

Make your getaway good by visiting www.fairmont.com/summer, calling 1-800-830-1411, or by contacting your favorite travel agent. Available through September 3, 2007, Only One Way rates are subject to availability and priced per room, per night, exclude taxes and are based on double occupancy in a Fairmont Room.

Grin and Bare It

By Lola

Those who purport to know me might find it curious that I’ve posted not one, but two, blogs on where to go to bare it all. They’re probably wondering why I haven’t posted more and where are the pictures. Anyway, that’s fodder for another blog…

Today my friends I bring you some pretty nifty “Bare Naked Bargains” straight from the Hidden Beach Resort, located on the pristine shores of Kantenah Bay in the Riviera Maya. Billing itself as the “only luxury nudist boutique hotel in the Riviera Maya” (I’m currently doing more research on the subject), Hidden Beach has 42 suites and the upscale all-inclusive service that’s become the hallmark of Karisma Resorts.

Couples and singles are welcome to this enclave of the uninhibited, where palapas hung with gauzy white curtains line the beachfront, the dining is Gourmet-Inclusive (and clothes exclusive) and the swim-up suites steps from the winding river pool are the first ones to go.

The “Bare Naked Bargains” promotions kick off with guests staying three to five nights receiving $100 off their final bill; guests staying six to seven
nights receive $150 off their final bill; and guests staying eight nights
or more receive $170 off their final bill. (Rates start at $205USD per person, per night.)

You must make your bookings before August 31, 2007 to take advantage of the promo, and you’ll have to plan to stay sometime before December 23, 2007. Blackout dates apply, so check out the website (complete with guest pictures – not for the faint of heart) at www.hiddenbeachresort.com or call them at 866-KARISMA.

And no, the Lola is not in any of them, in case you were looking…

Today’s Special: Fresh Fish at Rocky Point

By Lola

Residents of the desert city of Phoenix, Arizona, dare boast they have a beach in their backyard and – to a point – they’re right. Puerto Peñasco (AKA Rocky Point) is a mere 7 hours from the 114-degree heat of the city. In someone’s world, that’s close enough to qualify as a backyard beach.

In any case, Rocky Point has grown from a kind of backwater border beach to a genuine resort town complete with time share condos and all the accompanying accoutrements of a tourist destination.

Leading the evolution is Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort, a 350-acre golf community located on the Sea of Cortez. Some of you might have already heard of the (relatively) new luxury shuttle service that Las Palomas offers from Phoenix to its front door—if not, it’s a great way to kick back and let someone else worry about the trooper behind the sage bush.

Check out their Fishing Getaway Package for two, starting at $145 per night per person (double) with a minimum stay of two nights. For your American dollars you’ll get a 1-bedroom luxury ocean view suite, one “Fun Fishing Charter” (note: I did not come up with the name) per person with rod, reel, bait and tackle included, plus breakfast at La Maria Bistro, their on-site restaurant. Speaking of restaurant, the charter company boat captain will have his mate clean, fillet and bag your fish—there are plenty of spots around town to buy those little foam iceboxes to pack it in for the trip home. The special is valid through November 30, 2007. Check out the resort and book your trip at www.laspalomasresort.net or give them a call at 866-360-2324.

My Blue Heaven

by Lola

My idea of “blue” is as varied as the entry in Roget’s: azure, beryl, cerulean, cobalt, indigo, navy, royal, sapphire, teal, turquoise, ultramarine… Mexico’s idea of blue is its ever-changing Caribbean Sea, a brilliant interpretation of just about every shade Roget thought possible. I know it sounds corny, but wait till you see it out of your airplane window. You won’t believe your eyes.

Taking a cue from the blue and cashing in on the trend towards upscale boutique properties with fab service and great sheets, AZUL BLUE HOTEL + SPA by Karisma in Tulum (that would be in the Riviera Maya, down a ways from Cancun, and yes, still part of the Mexican Caribbean) opened its doors to rave reviews (and with only 97 rooms, managed to stay just south of the usual all-inclusive behemoth radar. What? Did I say “all-inclusive”??? Ya betcha, yeah. They do have the ubiquitous “activities directors”, but they really, really, try hard to shed the AI stigma. Service, check. Great food, check (they call it “Gourmet-Inclusive”). Sexy accommodations, check. Ab fab spa, check. Beach-side bar swings, check. Hot beach butlers, check.

Anyway, I’d rather not sound like a runaway commercial and let you know that you, too, can go Blue—and for less green—thanks to their great new promotion:

• Guests staying at Azul Blue between Jun. 25th – Aug. 10,
2007 receive a 20% Summer Special Discount

• Guests staying at Azul Blue between Aug. 11 – Dec. 23, 2007
receive a 25% Fall Special Discount

• Guests staying at Azul Blue between Jan. 2, 2008 – Apr. 30,
2008 receive a 20% Winter Early Booking Bonus Discount

Hard to beat with a stick, especially when you consider that Azul Blue made the Condé Nast Traveler’s 2007 “Hot List.” Summer rates (Jun. 25 – Aug. 10, 2007) begin at $235 per person, per night; Fall rates (Aug. 11 – Dec. 23, 2007) begin at $220 per person, per night; and Winter rates (Jan. 2 – Apr. 30, 2008) begin at $235 per person, per night.

Please Pass the Sunscreen

By Lola

Most visitors to Mexico’s beaches quickly find that sunscreen is not an option. On some beaches, however, they’ll find it’s the actual clothing that’s optional (which basically translates into a serious need for sunscreen). We (yes, I’m hiding behind the royal “we” here) decided to find out what all the hoopla was about at this so-called spicy getaway that went by the oh-so-spicy name of Desire Resort & Spa Los Cabos. And boy oh boy—let’s just say we needed several gallons of sunscreen to get through the week.

A five-star, clothing optional resort—couples 21 and over only, mind you—Desire Resort & Spa Los Cabos is located on a secluded corner of one of Cabo’s fine beaches. The hotel itself is quite lovely, with palapas punctuating pristine white buildings with ample balconies, rooms sleekly decorated and sparkling pools and Jacuzzis hither and yon. The guests leave very little to the imagination, which, of course is the entire point of a clothing optional resort. Take off or leave on as little or as much as you want—the choice is yours, we were told. So we did.

On that happy note, we’d like to share that we decided to take advantage of the summer’s Latin Fever weekends chock full of titillating games, exotic foods and activities that had to have raised more than a few people’s blood pressure (we kept ours in check by imbibing plenty of grapefruit juice. Really.) With rates starting at $140 per person, per night, Desire Resort & Spa Los Cabos has another spicy weekend coming up August 8-12. Can’t make that one? Check out the Desire Resort & Spa Riviera Maya on the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, where summer’s extended for the weekend of September 19-23 with rates starting at $185 per person, per night. Call them directly at 888-201-7441 or take a sneaky peek for yourself at www.desireresorts.com

And don’t forget your sunscreen.
