Mexico’s best and most popular athlete, Lorena Ochoa, is getting married. The groom-to-be is Andres Conesa, the director general of AeroMexico, Mexico’s premier airline, who holds a Ph.D from MIT in Boston. For Ochoa, 27, this will be her first marriage. Conesa, 39, has been previously married with three kids. The announcement came while the couple vacationed in Europe. The wedding date has been set for late in 2009. The couple met at an AeroMexico Los Cabos outing.
Ochoa, widely considered to be the best female golfer in the world, has been playing golf since the age of 5. She has often said that at some point raising a family will become her number one priority and that competitve golf would no longer be her life. Could this be the first step toward an early retirement? We hope that she can find a way to do both. She is a rare talent that has brought much pride to her country and has shown a generation of young Mexican girls that excellence can be acheived with hard work and opportunity. Congratulations to Lorena!
