NEW YORK, NY, December 11, 2009.- Due to its media impact and creative
excellence, a story about Mazatlán – a tourist destination on the Mexican Pacific – published in Travel + Leisure and part of the destination’s public relations and promotional campaign, has been honored by the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International – HSMAI – founded in 1927.
The story about Mazatlán was selected as a gold winner in the category
“Feature Placement Print – Consumer Magazine or Newspaper” in recognition of an article featured in Travel + Leisure, one of the most prestigious and credible tourism magazines in North America. Over 1,100 articles from 30 countries around the globe competed for these awards. HSMAI honors three finalists with gold, silver and bronze awards.
“It’s greatly satisfying to compete in the world league of marketing, and
even greater to be recognized for the promotional efforts of our tourist
destination”, said Carlos Berdegué, Vice President of the Mazatlán Hotel
Association. “This is the result of hard work and the contributions of all local
entities, including hoteliers, related tourism business and our three government levels”, he added. “The world tourism industry is facing challenging times, and it’s precisely now that these kinds of recognition acquire higher value and appreciation”, Berdegué concluded.
The Adrian Awards were founded by Adrian W. Phillips in 1956. In the
beginning they served as a selection of the best published articles and ads, which were used to train sales and marketing students in the travel industry. Currently, the Adrian Awards are globally the most important in their category. A group of 200 tourism industry experts worked for three weeks in the judging of entries and appointing winners in the different categories, based on a total point score.
The award ceremony will take place during a gala dinner offered by
HSMAI on February 1, 2010 at the Marriott Marquis New York, with the assistance of winners, top travel industry personalities and representatives of the most important media and advertising and public relations agencies from around the world, including YPartnership, the official advertising agency of Mazatlán, whose President Peter Yesawich will accept this award on behalf of his company and Mazatlán.
Also known as “the Pearl of the Pacific”, Mazatlán is one of the favorite
tourist destinations of North Americans and Mexican locals, due to its delicious and famous cuisine, beautiful beaches and friendly people. The Old Town or Historical District, whose colonial style is a unique attraction among Mexico beach destinations, boasts important icons of the local art and culture, such as the Angela Peralta Theater, the House of Culture and The Cathedral. Mazatlán features world class hotels and tourist services, and important developments in the northern part of the city, including marinas, golf courses and resorts, as well as the famous Golden Zone, the most important tourist district central to most hotels, restaurants and night clubs. Its recognized hospitality has contributed to the designation of Mazatlán as the permanent site of important events such as the Sinaloa Arts Festival, the Mazatlan Cultural Festival, the Pacific Marathon, the Pacific Triathlon, the Canadian Professional Golf Tour, the Fireworks Festival, the Motorbike Week
and important international fishing tournaments, among others. El Carnaval de Mazatlán – Mazatlán’s Mardi Gras – has been part of the local culture for over 110 years, and the next festival will take place February 11 to 16, 2010.
