NEW YORK – There’s nothing like the Caribbean Sea and the Yucatán breeze to clean out a cluttered mind. This summer, Rosewood Mayakobá will offer a series of yoga retreats at Sense, A Rosewood Spa®. Yoga instructor TJ Jackson will lead “Yoga in Paradise,” several four-day programs, aimed at yogis of all levels who want to deepen their practice.
Jackson will lead guests in morning and evening yoga sessions in Vinyasa (coordinated breathing and postures that create heat to strengthen and detoxify), Pranayama (simple breathing techniques that heal and cleanse the nerves, lungs, and bloodstream), and meditation, used to calm the mind and explore states of concentration and higher consciousness. Between classes, guests are free to take advantage of the private plunge pool in their suite, the beachfront setting, or the spa, which sits on a private island within the resort.
Along with accommodations and classes, the retreat package includes daily breakfast, one complimentary spa treatment, full use of the spa’s facilities, and a Temazcal, which is a traditional Mayan Sweat Lodge ceremony.
Meet the Instructor
Jackson discovered yoga while working as a medical researcher in India, where he then became classically trained in the Eight Arms of Ashtanga Yoga under the instruction of an Ayruvedic doctor and Sanskrit professor. After returning to the United States for medical school, Jackson decided to focus on his yoga studies in the United States and India, and continues to practice with Sri Dharma Mittra in New York City and at The International Center for Yoga Education and Research in Pondicherry, India. Jackson splits his time between studying yoga and traveling the globe hosting yoga retreats in New York, Mexico and France.
