Three Spectacular New Golf Courses on the Horizon in Los Cabos

New Layouts Boost Appeal of World-Class Destination at Land’s End

Los Cabos, Mexico (PRWEB) December 16, 2013

Situated at the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula and home to Mexico’s most top-shelf golf offerings, Los Cabos has established itself as a coveted, world-class golf getaway over the past two decades; and now with the announcement of three new courses on the horizon Los Cabos will continue to rise above the rest.

Boasting nearly a dozen courses designed by the game’s leading architects, Los Cabos commands a unique ocean-mountain-desert ecosystem found nowhere else in the hemisphere. This unusual combination of environments has sparked the imagination of developers-and resulted in the creation of the “Next Great Place” for international golf travelers.

Home to four of the top five courses in Mexico according to Golf Digest’s current ‘Planet Golf’ rankings, Los Cabos plans to raise the stakes in 2014, when the two best-known figures in the sport, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus, will unveil new creations at Diamante and Quivira, respectively.

“We could not be happier to welcome these three courses, designed by some of the best in the industry, to our destination,” said Eduardo Segura, Managing Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, “Already home to some of the best golf offerings in the world, the addition of these courses will truly raise the bar of excellence and take the Los Cabos’ golf scene to the next level.”

Closer at hand, Chileno Bay, a long-awaited resort development fronting one of the most desirable beaches in Los Cabos, will debut its dazzling Tom Fazio-designed course on December 31, 2013. Routed in desert foothills high above the Sea of Cortes, each hole on this beautiful newcomer has graceful, flowing landforms intended to simulate rolling ocean waves. Framed by sculpted bunkers, broad arroyos and feathery “champagne grass,” Chileno Bay builds to a climax at the long par-4 18th, which tumbles downhill to a sprawling green back dropped by the sea.

Diamante, a timeshare development built on massive sand dunes above the Pacific Ocean a few miles north of Cabo San Lucas, simulates the sensation of playing a treeless, windswept, Scottish-style links. As an added attraction, golfers can view whales breaching close to shore during the winter months. Diamante’s top-rated Dunes Course, designed by Davis Love III, offers tee times to prospective property buyers. Love and his design team recently returned to Diamante to replace the inland 12th and 13th holes with a new pair of holes routed in enormous dunes nearer the sea. These holes will debut in mid-2014. Later next year the Dunes Course will be joined by El Cardonal, an inland layout with an “Old California” design motif that will mark the architectural debut of superstar Tiger Woods.

Adjacent to Diamante at the Pueblo Bonito development is Quivira, a breathtaking layout by Jack Nicklaus that starts at sea level near the pounding surf before climbing to higher ground, where the panoramic views and topographical diversity are unsurpassed. “Our team is working with the canvas Mother Nature has provided to create one of the most spectacular courses in the world,” Nicklaus said of his sixth and perhaps final course in Los Cabos. Marked by windswept dunes, steep cliffs and raw desert, Quivira has the potential to redefine the Cabo golf experience and is expected to rank among Nicklaus’s most memorable creations. The $40 million golf development at Quivira is tentatively scheduled to open in summer, 2014.

With its consistently sunny weather, low humidity and cooling sea breezes, the climate in Cabo is perfect for golf. The corridor’s scalloped coastline, washed by the Sea of Cortes, is home to more multi-starred, “gran turismo” hotels than any other destination in Mexico. In addition, the plethora of activities favored by golfers and non-golfers alike includes fishing (deep-sea and in-shore), surfing, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, whale watching cruises, desert jeep tours, exceptional shopping, eclectic dining, and dawn-to-dusk nightlife.

Los Cabos Offers New Hotels, Increased Airlift, and Exciting Adventures in 2013

Los Cabos, Mexico (March 18, 2013) – Set against one of Mexico’s most naturally beautiful backdrops, Los Cabos has long been the destination of choice among sophisticated travelers seeking a once-in-a-lifetime vacation experience and will undoubtedly continue be in the spotlight as new offerings are announced in 2013. Providing travelers the ultimate luxury experience, the addition of new hotels, an improved infrastructure, increased airlift and exciting new adventures in Los Cabos will make the destination a top choice among leisure and business travelers alike.

Adding to the destination’s already impressive roster of high-end properties, El Ganzo, a 66-room oceanfront property located at the marina in Puerto Los Cabos just five minutes from the historic and charming town of San José del Cabo, recently opened its doors offering the artistic and cultured traveler an experience unlike anywhere else in the destination. Earlier this month, Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos reopened its doors after a multimillion-dollar renovation. Formerly the Finisterra Hotel, the property is the first Sandos resort in Los Cabos and the brand’s fourth venture in Mexico, offering traveler’s 228-renovated, waterfront rooms, a new world-class spa and a top-floor whale-watching bar. Later this year, Secrets Puerto Los Cabos, an adults-only resort, will redefine luxury and relaxation providing guests with 500 spacious suites each featuring a private balcony and terrace. And for the business traveler, the destination is planning to welcome a 157-room Hotel Hyatt Palace in San José del Cabo.

Los Cabos is more prepared than ever to welcome business travelers to the destination in 2013. As the host city for the 2012 G20 Summit, which welcomed world leaders and heads of state to the Baja Peninsula, the destination inaugurated the innovative Los Cabos International Convention Center and a new four-lane highway stretching from Cabo San Lucas to the capital of La Paz positions Los Cabos as top-choice for business travel this year. The convention center offers 72,000 square feet of functional space and capacity to accommodate up to 5,000 people for meetings and 3,000 individuals for banquets. Equipped with solar panels and environmental technology, the Los Cabos Convention Center was designed with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind and has been designated as a “green” facility. It has the largest green wall in the world, which serves as insulator and prevents the building from overheating in the warm summer months.

For leisure travelers seeking new activities and entertainment in the destination, the recent addition of Cabo Dolphin’s underwater dolphin swim experience and the opening of Rock & Brews restaurant in San Jose del Cabo are the destination’s most noteworthy new offerings. Swimming with the dolphins has been a popular experience in Cabo for travelers, however the new underwater experience puts a new twist on the traditional Dolphin Swim. Also new to Cabo’s long list of fantastic dining and nightlife option, KISS rock legends Paul Stanley and co-founder Gene Simmons joined forces to open the first international location of Simmons restaurant venture, Rock & Brews, in Los Cabos. The restaurant will feature a unique, concert-themed atmosphere and offer al fresco dining, taking advantage of Cabo’s near perfect, year-round weather.

Finally, getting to Los Cabos this year will become increasingly easier from North America with two new direct flight options adding to the already extensive airlift from over 24 US and Canadian cities. Starting June 2, Southwest Airlines will begin daily service between Austin, TX and just this month AirTran Airlines added a direct flight from Denver to Los Cabos. This new flight option follows the addition of another new direct flight from the Orange County gateway from AirTran, which launched in late 2012.

Los Cabos, located at the tip of the 1,000-mile long Baja Peninsula, is home to award-winning hotels, resorts, championship golf courses, rejuvenating spas, world-class sport fishing, and was the host city for the G20 Summit of global leaders this year. Having a Whale of a Time in Mexico

By Lisa Coleman

“What I see in Nature is a magnificent structure that we can comprehend only very imperfectly, and that must fill a thinking person with a feeling of humility. This is a genuinely religious feeling that has nothing to do with mysticism” ~ Albert Einstien

Christmas is over but it’s almost time for another kind of season… whale watching season. Mexico and marine life have a very specific bond, and there are few places where it is felt more strongly than along the coasts of the Baja Peninsula. With the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Sea of Cortés on the other, this is one of the best locations anywhere to witness nature’s magnificent wonders. The Sea of Cortés is one of the world’s unique ocean environments, and is considered by some to be the most biologically rich body of water on earth. In late December through early March, it also happens to be one of the premiere whale watching destinations in the world.

The sparkling seaside resorts of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo (better known as Los Cabos or simply “Cabo”) are the ultimate location on the Baja Peninsula for whale watching. Each year an estimated 12,000 of the world’s 21,000 Gray whales make a 6,000-mile journey to bear their calves in the warm waters of the Pacific lagoons to the north of Los Cabos. From there, many continue south, veering around the tip of the Baja into the crystal waters of the Sea of Cortés. Here they find peace and freedom and provide whale-watchers with incredible thrills.

At birth, the Pacific Gray whale is approximately 15 feet long. As adults, their average length can be from 40 to 46 feet (about the same as a Greyhound bus!), and they can weigh up to 35 tons. They spend their summers northwest of Alaska in the Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort Seas before making their way toward Mexico for the winter. The journey to Mexican waters is a lengthy trip for the gray whales that travel in pods as small as three whales and as large as sixteen members. Though they only swim at about five miles per hour, they are extremely agile. Diving as deep as 500 feet, they can stay under water for up to 30 minutes. Since they are mammals and surface to breathe, they have two blowholes near the top of their heads. You can hear them spouting from nearly a half a mile away and the stream of water shooting from their blowhole can rise 10-13 feet above the surface.

In Cabo, at the height of the migration, these amazing creatures are so close they can easily be seen from shore. Several hotels and cafes also have patios overlooking prime whale viewing areas. Many local tour companies also offer whale-watching trips. There are two-and-a-half hour boat tours in the bays around Los Cabos, either by the catamaran or powerboat.

In the sheltered lagoons of the Baja, the calves learn survival skills and gain strength by swimming against the ocean currents flowing into the calmer waters. The calves weigh around 3,000 pounds and are about 19 feet long when they are ready to leave. Magdalena Bay is one of the most famous breeding lagoons in the area and it’s not uncommon for the “friendlies,” as they’re called, to approach the small boats (“pangas”) of whale watchers. The sweet-tempered leviathans often approach the boats and welcome a gentle rub from humans… truly extraordinary. You can reach “Mag” Bay by plane or bus. There are countless tours available through your hotel in Los Cabos or you can book online before you go. The excursions from Los Cabos usually include snacks on board the boat and lunch at a local restaurant. It’s an encounter with nature not easily duplicated.

In Los Cabos, there’s more than great golf and beautiful beaches, there’s a chance to be involved with some of the most unbelievable creatures on the planet. Check it out if you can, it will be one of the most memorable experiences you’ve ever had.
