A Tasty Tip for Chocolate Lovers Visiting Oaxaca …

By Ron Mader

If you like chocolate and if you’re visiting Oaxaca, my personal recommendation is purchasing Lucia’s homemade Chocoluchy, a special treat during Muertos.

You’ll find chocolate maker Lucia Diaz Gonzalez selling her chocolates in person at the Pochimilco Market (Colonia Xochimilco) on Fridays and Saturdays, 9am-3pm. You can find her chocolates at stores including Bambu and Grupo Lula’a.

Disclosure: Yes, I do make Chocoluchy promotional materials and often receive chocolate in compensation. That said, I know good chocolate … and good people!

Day of the Dead around the World

by Ron Mader

Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated throughout the Americas and combines ancient indigenous traditions and modern fanfare. It’s a whimsical and yet serious holiday that takes place between October 31st and November 2nd.

Mexico may have the most spectacular festivals in the hemisphere. Well known are festivities in Oaxaca, Michoacán, and Mexico City.

YOUR TURN – We are seeking photos of the holiday in the Day of the Dead Group hosted on Flickr. Photographers are asked to share their own photos. Registration on Flickr — http://www.flickr.com — is required.
