It is getting near that time of year when Mexico throws their annual business party geared toward the travel industry, and Lisa, Lydia and I will be there to report on the action. Always held in the seaside resort of Acapulco, thousands of domestic and international buyers come together to meet with nearly 500 suppliers from April 26 – 29 to get some serious business completed. Tourism is very important to Mexico’s economy and that is reflected in the scope and extravagance of this always delightful and productive event. Tianguis is the largest such trade show/convention in Latin America, and the Mexican government makes every effort to provide a great experience.
Also on hand will be travel journalists, and that’s here we come in. We will post on this web site every day as to what is new and on the horizon for the coming year. Besides all the exhibitors, daily press conferences are held all day long from tourist professionals, from both the private sector and the government. Then, of course, the parties at night are (insanely) legendary, as Acapulco shines the light on why it is the original tourist town, highlighted by its incomparable Acapulco Bay.
Something new this year will be the first annual Nick Gallo Award, which will be presented at the large Monday morning breakfast sponsored by the Mazatlan Hotel Association. The award was started by Mexico Premiere (that’s us) to honor not only our old friend Nick, who tragically passed away in 2007, but also to reward the best in Mexico travel journalism. We feel very privileged to join with Mexico Boutique Hotels and AeroMexico in sponsoring this worthwhile award, and we extend our sincere thanks to both of them.
